The first thing that comes to mind when you think of New Orleans is Bourbon Street. A trip to ‘The Big Easy’ would not be complete without a stroll down the infamous path filled with street performers and debauchery. I have no doubt that the French Quarter offers the best people watching in the world, but if you are anything like me, you can only do so much watching. I need to be doing, and New Orleans has so much to offer!
It recently occurred to me that my birthday is in less than two months; I will be turning 39. I have one year of my thirties left- gulp. After a momentary panic attack, I went straight to Pinterest and typed in “Bucket List”. My mission was to take inventory of all the things I want to do before I hit the big 4-0. Ouch, it’s even painful to type.

I moved to Minnesota from Georgia 13 years ago and every winter I have to give myself the same pep talk I am about to give you…Don’t let winter hold you hostage! It is so tempting when the temperature drops to go into hibernation. Resist the urge! Bundle up the kids, ignore the temperature and go exploring.

“Hallmark towns really do exist,” my little sister, Sara, told my older sister, Julie, as we walked through the tiny town of Cuba, Kansas. Cuba was the 3rd small town we had visited that day, and we were attending our second hometown Christmas parade in less than 24 hours. Ponies trotted past us with giddy children on their backs, a tractor pulling a wagon of hay rolled down the street, and Santa walked down the sidewalk chatting with every child along the way. I half expected Candace Cameron Bure to pop out of one of the stores and snow to start falling on cue.

This little girl has haunted me since I first saw her December 1, 2002. Something about her struck me as I walked past the thousands of mugshots that hang on the walls of S21 Prison Camp, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She’s probably 5 or 6 years old in this photograph- her mugshot- the last photo taken of her before she was killed for her “crimes”. She has stuck with me through the years and continually whispers “live…I didn’t get that chance.”
I love treehouses! Anyone who has ever been trapped in a conversation with me about them knows I get a twinkle in my eye, and it’s hard to get me to change the subject. I watch Treehouse Masters with the same enthusiasm others have for Game of Thrones. I have dreams of one day owning my own treehouse compound. Until then, I will seek them out!
My mom and sister were in town in this past weekend, and I was excited to take them on a Fall adventure. The weather in Minnesota has been gorgeous this October. Coats and hats have stayed packed away, and I had convinced myself that winter would hold off until Christmas. Yeah, right…we woke up to snow on the ground. Why, Minnesota, why?!

Quebec City is beautiful in the fall! The leaves are brilliant and everything about the environment feels like Europe from the “Bonjour” greetings to the French and British architecture. That is, everything except the prices! Currently, the Canadian dollar is worth approximately $0.80 to the US dollar. This means that you can subtract 20% off prices to convert costs to the US dollar. The prices you see for attractions and on menus are equivalent to prices you see in US cities, so you are essentially saving 20% on your trip right out of the gate if you live in the US. In contrast, you would be adding 20% if you were visiting a country in the European Union.
