I’m a sucker for unique and adventurous places to stay. If you have read my post, Will Travel for Treehouses & Other Strange Sleeping Arrangements or had a conversation about travel with me, this comes as no surprise. I’ll trade a cushy bed for a unique experience any opportunity I get. So, of course, a few non-traditional places to call home for the night landed on my 40 Before 40 Bucket List.
I’ll admit it. Jumping into a hole cut into a frozen lake was probably the item I looked forward to the least on my 40 Before 40 Bucket List. It went on and off the draft several times. I finally committed when I found out about a Polar Plunge event hosted by Law Enforcement to raise money for Special Olympics Minnesota. Now that’s a good reason to jump in a lake!

The first time I saw photos of the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas I knew I had to visit. The café tables lining the water’s edge looked so inviting. My first thought was, ‘now, wouldn’t that be the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee.’ Thus “having a cup of coffee along the San Antonio Riverwalk” became one of my 40 Before 40 Bucket List items.
Winter Olympics 2022, here I come! Yeah, right. But, I did get to check a second item off my bucket list and try something new. Curling was a fun experience. Anyone can pick up the basics quickly. I thought our instructor summed it up well when he said “curling takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master.”
The first time we attempted to ice climb at Robinson Park in Sandstone, Minnesota, it was an unbearable -14 degrees Fahrenheit. My breath was freezing to my hair, and icicles were forming on our eyelashes. We had to throw in the towel and reschedule.

I did it! I checked off my first “40 Before 40” Bucket List item! I have the scars (okay, bruises) to prove it, but I’ll get to that later.
I’m kicking off my 40 Before 40 Bucket List with a literal splash! On February 24th, I’ll be doing a Polar Plunge at Crooked Lake in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of New Orleans is Bourbon Street. A trip to ‘The Big Easy’ would not be complete without a stroll down the infamous path filled with street performers and debauchery. I have no doubt that the French Quarter offers the best people watching in the world, but if you are anything like me, you can only do so much watching. I need to be doing, and New Orleans has so much to offer!

It recently occurred to me that my birthday is in less than two months; I will be turning 39. I have one year of my thirties left- gulp. After a momentary panic attack, I went straight to Pinterest and typed in “Bucket List”. My mission was to take inventory of all the things I want to do before I hit the big 4-0. Ouch, it’s even painful to type.
I moved to Minnesota from Georgia 13 years ago and every winter I have to give myself the same pep talk I am about to give you…Don’t let winter hold you hostage! It is so tempting when the temperature drops to go into hibernation. Resist the urge! Bundle up the kids, ignore the temperature and go exploring.
I love treehouses! Anyone who has ever been trapped in a conversation with me about them knows I get a twinkle in my eye, and it’s hard to get me to change the subject. I watch Treehouse Masters with the same enthusiasm others have for Game of Thrones. I have dreams of one day owning my own treehouse compound. Until then, I will seek them out!

My mom and sister were in town in this past weekend, and I was excited to take them on a Fall adventure. The weather in Minnesota has been gorgeous this October. Coats and hats have stayed packed away, and I had convinced myself that winter would hold off until Christmas. Yeah, right…we woke up to snow on the ground. Why, Minnesota, why?!
