A Little About Me: My Traveling Street Cred

By Posted on 3 m read 39 views

I am Susan Taylor, hence the “Taylor” in Taylored Adventures.  I am a wife and mother who loves to travel.  In fact, I am a wife and mother because of travel!  I have visited 35+ countries, but I believe that adventure can be found across the globe or your own backyard.  I am always on the lookout for off the beaten path exploration and ways to save money so I can travel more.

How I met my husband…
I met Scott in 2001 while staying at a youth hostel in London, England.  I was backpacking across Europe after college.  We communicated via email throughout my trip, but we eventually lost touch after I moved to Hawaii with my best friend for a year of crazy adventures.  When I moved back to Georgia, Scott and I reconnected when I replied to a mass email communicating a change in his email address.  We met back up in Orlando, Florida and dated long distance for over a year.  Our monthly dates were in locations across the US and the globe.  I eventually moved to Minnesota where Scott lived.  We were married two years later in Bath, England.

My daughters and their adventurous entrances into the world…

I have two beautiful daughters, Ella(5) and Nora(2), who could write their own blogs about their “adventurous” entrances into the world.  Ella was born 15 weeks premature weighing only one pound, one ounce.    She spent four months in the hospital before she could come home.  She is a fighter with a daring spirit.  Nora was born in Vilahermosa, Mexico with the help of a gestational surrogate.  Scott and I spent six weeks in Mexico after she was born getting her US citizenship established before we could bring her home.  We have a joke in our family that we have North America covered as Scott is a Canadian citizen, Ella and I are US citizens, and Nora was born in Mexico!

My career..

I graduated college in 2001 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.  I wanted to host a show on the Travel Channel- imagine that!  Instead, I took a job in a public relations department at a hospital.  However, I had an epiphany on the way home from work one day, quit my job, and called my best friend.  Two weeks later we were on a plane to Hawaii with no return ticket.  We waited tables at an Outback Steakhouse for about a year and ended our Hawaii adventure with a six-week trip to Thailand and Cambodia.   Upon returning to my home town in Georgia, I went back to school for Nuclear Medicine Technology.  After completing the program, I moved to Minnesota (to be close to Scott) and took a job in a cardiovascular clinic at North Memorial Hospital as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.  Over the next 13 years, I “worked my way up the ladder” and ended my career at North Memorial this past March with the title of Vice President of Operations.  Now, I am what I like to call an on-the-go, stay at home mom.  Since March, I have been on 10 trips, traveled to 2 countries, and visited 11 states.  Some trips have been with the whole family, some with just Scott and some with my girlfriends.  I have been skydiving, ice climbing and biking on bicycle built for two.  Going forward, I want to share my experiences with you, tell you about hidden gems and give you cost saving tips along the way.

Come join me on an adventure!
